Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan, Speaker assumed the Chair and proceedings commenced with the recitation from the Holy Qur’an followed by its Urdu translation by Qari Noor Muhammad.

 
POINT OF ORDER:-

On a point-of-order, Ch Tahir Mehmood Hundali, MPA, demanded that the recitation from the Holy Qur’an should be followed by Na’at-e-Rasool-e-Maqbool (PBUH). Other members also supported his point of order. The Speaker allowed and Mr Amjad Ali Mayo, MPA recited Na’at-e-Rasool-e-Maqbool. All the Members welcomed the decision of the Chair.

Mr Zahir-ud-Din, MPA congratulated Mr Speaker saying that it was the first time in the Assembly history that Na’at had been recited before regular proceedings. The Minister for Prisons, Ch Abdul Ghafoor also congratulated the Speaker for allowing a member to recite Na’at.

ANNOUNCEMENT BY THE CHAIR:-

Mr Speaker made an important announcement about the resignation of Sirdar Dost Muhammad Khan Khosa from the office of Chief Minister Punjab. He further informed the House that since Chief Minister Punjab had resigned, the House could not carry out any other business till the ascertainment of new Chief Minister as envisaged in rule 17(1) of the Rules of Procedure, Provincial Assembly of the Punjab 1997. He also announced that a special session of the Assembly had been summoned by the Governor for this purpose to be held on June 8, 2008.

 
Upon the direction of Mr Speaker, the Secretary Punjab Assembly announced the procedure about the ascertainment of Chief Minister and the session was prorogued.
