Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan, Speaker Provincial Assembly of the Punjab, assumed the Chair and proceedings commenced with recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an followed by its Urdu translation by Qari Noor Muhammad. Assembly employee Maqbool Hussain presented Naat-e-Rasool Maqbool (PBUH).

Condolence:-

The House offered fateha for uncle of MPA Shahid Mahmood Khan.

Questions Hour: −

Questions relating to Services & General Administration Department were asked and Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Rana Sanaullah Khan answered the questions.

Privilege Motion:-

One Privilege motion was taken up. The motion moved by Mrs.‏ Deeba Mirza regarding misconduct of TMO Tehsil Sialkot Akmal Mir was answered by Minister for Law and was kept pending till Monday.

Adjournment Motion:-

One Adjournment Motion was taken up. The motion was moved by Mian Muhammad Rafique regarding stocking fertilizers and selling them at higher prices by dealers. The House granted leave to hold general discussion on the motion. The Speaker fixed two hours for discussion to be held on Tuesday, 19 August.

Government Business:-

Debate on Supply and Prices of Essential Commodities

Minister for Excise and Taxation Mian Mujtuba Shuja-ur-Rehman opened debate on supply and prices of essential commodities. He said that prices of wheat and floor are the lowest as compared with prices in other neighboring countries like Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Iran and and India etc. He further elaborated that Food Stamp Scheme and establishment of multiple task forces to check price hike are also the major steps being taken by the Government. After that Leader of Opposition Chaudhry Zahir-ud-Din Khan delivered his speech on the issue and said that the prices of edible items are increasing beyond limits and government should give relief to the masses by reducing oil prices in commensurate with the decline in the international market. He further said that the district government system introduced by their previous government had yielded positive results as far as the price control was concerned. Other Opposition and Treasury members e.g Ch. Nadeem Khadim, Mrs.‏   Amna Ulfat , Ch. Aamar Sultan Cheema, Mian Tariq Mehmood, Mrs.‏   Khadija Umar , Syed Nazim Hussain Shah, Waris Kallu, Ali Asghar Manda made speeches on supply and prices of essential commodities.
