Since Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan, Speaker had assumed the charge of Acting Governor, the Acting Speaker Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan assumed the Chair and proceedings commenced with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an and its Urdu translation by Qari Muhammad Ali followed by Naat-e-Rasool-e-Maqbool (P.B.U.H.) by Mian Marghoob Ahmad Hamdani.

Privilege Motion

Only one Privilege motion was taken up. The motion moved by Syed Hassan Murtaza regarding misbehavior of DDOR, Chiniot was kept pending.      

 

The motion was answered by Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Rana Sanaullah Khan.

General Discussion on Annual Budget for the Year 2009-2010

The general discussion on Annual Budget for the year 2009-2010 resumed on the last day. In his winding up speech Minister for Finance, Tanvir Ashraf Kaira paid tribute to slain party Chairperson Benazir Bhutto and the efforts taken by party Co-Chairman and President Asif Ali Zardari for the welfare of the people. He said that under the prevailing circumstances, the budget was balanced and would help in achieving targets set for poverty alleviation, improvement of health, education and law and order. The Finance Minister said that Punjab Food Support Programme was a step for the wefare of poor and deserving citizens and meant to alleviate poverty from the province. The Sasti Roti programme would also prove vital for addressing the need for poor people. He further said that the Federal Government had announced to increase the salary of government employees by 20 percent instead of 15 percent and Punjab government would increase the salary of employees with the same ratio announced by the centre. He illustrated that Punjab Government had paid special attention towards the development and progress of Southern belt. He said that with the help of Cholistan Development Authority, a Master plan was prepared to initiate the projects pertaining to the construction of roads and livestock development.
