Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan, Speaker, assumed the Chair and proceedings commenced with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an and its Urdu translation by Qari Noor Muhammad followed by Naat-e-Rasool-e-Maqbool (PBUH) by Mr. Sarwar Hussain Naqshbandi. 

 

Question Hour:  

 

Questions relating to Labour and Human Resources Department were asked and Mr. Muhammad Ashraf Khan Sohna, Minister for Labour and Human Resources answered the questions.

 

Privilege Motion:

 

Only one Privilege Motion moved by Syed Hassan Murtaza regarding misbehavior of Adnan Gillani, SSM, Allama Iqbal International Airport , Lahore was taken up and disposed of.

 

The motion was answered by Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs.

 

Adjournment Motions:-

 

Nine Adjournment Motions were taken up. Motion moved by Syed Hassan Murtaza regarding child labour at Tayyab Textile Mills, Chinniot, motion moved by Ch. Zaheer-ud-Din regarding newspaper report about failure in tax revenue collection by the provincial department concerned, motion moved by Mrs.‏ Sahibzadi Nargis Zafar regarding checks being dishonoured given by DG Local Government to the contractors, motion moved by Sardar Khalid Saleem Bhatti regarding newspaper report about illegal construction of commercial building in Lahore, motion moved by Dr. Faiza Asghar regarding non-payments to the victims of Camel race, by federal government given by U.A.E, motion moved by Ch. Aamir Sultan Cheema regarding corruption in Health department, motion moved by Shaikh Allaud Din regarding illegal possession of land at Harapa, motion moved by Tahir Ahmed Sindhu regarding illegal possession of land at Chak No.6SB, Tehsil Bhalwal, were kept pending till next session, motion moved by Mian Muhammad Rafiq regarding protest of power looms workers for increase daily wages was disposed of.

 

The motions were answered by Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs.

 

GOVERNMENT BUSINESS:

 

GENERAL DISCUSSION ON IRRIGATION:

 

Ch. Zaheer-ud-Din, Leader of Opposition opened the debate on Irrigation. He said that recent floods had highlighted the importance of water and reservoirs regardless of their name and location. He said that had lost a huge quantity of water a few weeks ago and if we had dams in the country, water could be stored for many years. He stated that if Kalabagh Dam was not acceptable to some people, its name and location could be changed. He said that irrigation system should be rehabilitated thoroughly. He said that Districts like Rajanpur and Rahim Yar Khan, existing at the tail-end of irrigation system, are facing worse situation. He said that Punjab produces 80 percent of the agriculture, but now it cannot achieve its target without water. He further said that government should also build institutions that could ensure judicious distribution of water among all the areas to maximize agriculture output.

 

Then the Speaker Provincial Assembly of the Punjab adjourned the session sine die.

 

The session was subsequently prorogued by the Governor w.e.f. 25th October 2010.
