Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, Acting Speaker, assumed the Chair and proceedings commenced with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an and its Urdu translation by Qari Noor Muhammad followed by Naat-e-Rasool-e-Maqbool (PBUH) by Mr. Sarwar Hussain Naqshbandi

Question Hour: −

Questions relating to Food Department were asked and answered by Mr. Muhammad Saeed Mughal, Parliamentary Secretary for Food.

Call Attention Notices:-

Two Call Attention Notices were taken up. The Notice of Khawaja Muhammad Islam regarding deceivability of Brokers by cheaters at Dry Port, Faisalabad was disposed of as the mover was not present and other Call Attention Notice of Rana Tanveer Ahmad Nasir regarding firing incident and killing of a passerby during a public meeting of PML-Q Leader Ch. Pervaiz Elahi in District Sheikhpura was kept pending till next Call Attention Notice day.

The Notices were answered by Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs.

Extension In Time Limit For Laying The Reports:-

 On a Motion moved by Mr. Shahjahan Ahmad Bhatti, the House granted extension for one year from 18th February 2011 to Public Accounts Committee-II for laying its reports on “Appropriation Accounts for year 2004-05 pertaining to the Punjab Government” and “Audit Report for the year 2005-06”.

On a Motion moved by Mr. Muhammad Mohsin Khan Leghari, the House granted extension for one year from 18th February 2011 to Public Accounts Committee-I for laying its report on “Audit Paras (Receipts and Civil Works) for the year 2006-07”.

Adjournment Motions:-

Eleven Adjournment Motions were taken up. The Motion moved by Mian Tariq Mehmood regarding embezzlement of revenue amount with the connivance of a TMA Cattle Market, Kharian, the Motion moved by Malik Muhammad Abbas Raan regarding non operational status of the Institute of Cardiology, Wazirabad, the Motion moved by Ch. Aamir Sultan Cheema regarding sale of 8 Kanal land illegally possessed near Nawaz Sharif Farm, two Motions moved by Ms. Sajida Mir, regarding lack of space in Camp Jail and Central Jail Kotlakhpat, Lahore and other regarding non provision of jails  for women in their cities other than located at Multan, the Motion moved by Mrs. Khadija Umar regarding open sale of harmful tea in Lahore, the Motion moved by Syeda Majida Zaidi regarding spreading of Measles in Multan, the Motion moved by Seemal Kamran regarding fish dying in Ravi river due to toxic and poisonous water and its sale in the cities, the Motion moved by Mr. Ejaz Ahmad Kahlon regarding lack of security arrangement at General Bus Stand, Sargodha, the Motion moved by Sardar Khalid Saleem Bhatti regarding installation of substandard Sewerage pipeline at Lahore Road Burewala, district Vehari were kept pending till next week, while the Motion moved by Dr. Muhammad Ashraf Chohan regarding apathetic attitude of Health Department towards Doctors and Para-medical staff was disposed of as mover was not present.

The motions were answered by Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs.

Government Business:-

 GENERAL DISCUSSION ON PRICE HIKE OF ESSENTIAL COMMODITIES:-

Mr. Muhammad Saeed Mughal, Parliamentary Secretary for Food in his opening speech on price hike of essential commodities apprised the House that the government could not control price hike till enhancement of production. He added that industrial sector has adversely been affected during energy crises and now it is likely to collapse. The following members participated in the discussion: Mr. Muhammad Mohsin Khan Leghari, Mr. Ijaz Ahmed Khan, Rana Munawar Hussain alias Rana Munawar Ghous Khan, Mr.  Ahmed Khan Balouch, Dr. Samia Amjad, Mr. Abdul Waheed Chaudhry, Malik Jalal-ud-Din Dhaku, Mrs.‏ Nighat Nasir Sheikh, Ch. Muhammad Awais Aslam Madhana, Humaira Awais Shahid, Mr. Raja Shaukat Aziz Bhatti, Ch. Ali Asghar Manda, and Ms. Arifa Khalid Pervez.

The House was then adjourned till 9:00 am on Friday, January 14, 2011.
