Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan, Speaker, assumed the Chair and proceedings commenced with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an and its Urdu translation followed by Naat-e-Rasool-e-Maqbool (PBUH).

General discussion on Annual Budget for the year 2015-16

General discussion on Annual Budget for the year 2015-16 continued for the fifth and the last day. The following members participated in the discussion: Ms Rashida Yaqoob Sheikh, Mr Ihsan-ul-Haq Bajwa, Sardar Khalid Mahmood Waran, Rana Mehmood-ul-Hassan, Dr. Nadia Aziz, Dr. Farzana Nazir, Ch Ashfaq Ahmed, Sardar Ali Raza Khan Dreshak, Mr Tariq Masih Gill, Ch Muhammad Ashraf, Mr Awais Qasim Khan, Ms Raheela Anwar, Ms Surriya Naseem, Mr Muhammad Siddique Khan, Malik Muhammad Waheed, Ms Farha Manzoor and Ms Azra Sabir Khan.

Dr. Aisha Ghaus Pasha, Minister for Finance concluded the general discussion on budget 2015-16 with the assurance that the recommendations of the Opposition benches would be addressed and important decisions on the government spending were made by the political leadership contrary to popular opinion that the bureaucracy is singlehandedly involved in its planning. She clarified that the budget has been prepared taking into consideration the recommendations made in the pre-budget period and no bureaucratic idea was envisioned. She insisted that the proposals made by the parliamentary resource mobilization committee, academia and parliamentarians on both sides were key in budget decision making. She added that all standards for transparency and accountability will be met while providing relief to public and all projects will be free of corruption.

The House was then adjourned till Monday, June 22, 2015 at 2:00 pm.
