Personal Career & Interests

Mr Moonis Elahi was born on April 12, 1976 in Lahore. He obtained the degree of BBA in 1999 from University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA. A businessman, who served as Member, Provincial Assembly of the Punjab during 2008-13 and has returned to the Punjab Assembly for the second consecutive term in general elections 2013. He belongs to a renowned political family. He is the son of Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, former Chief Minister of Punjab, nephew of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, former Prime Minister of Pakistan and grandson of Chaudhry Zahoor Elahi, a prominent politician. His father has served as Member of Punjab Assembly for six consecutive terms during 1985-88, 1988-90, 1990-93, 1993-96, 1997-99 and 2002-07 and functioned as the Provincial Minister during 1985-88, 1988-90 & 1990-93; as Acting Leader of the Opposition during 1993-96. He has served as the Speaker, Punjab Assembly during 1997-99 and was the Chief Minister of Punjab during 2002-07. He also remained Member of National Assembly during 2008-13 and served as Federal Minister and Deputy Prime Minister and is a sitting MNA. His grandfather, Ch Zahoor Elahi served as Member of National Assembly during 1962-64, 1972-77; his uncle, Ch Shujat Hussain remained Member of National Assembly for five terms during 1985-88, 1988-90, 1990-93, 1997-99, 2002-07 and also functioned as Prime Minister of Pakistan; as Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control, Information, Broadcasting, Industries and Production; as Senator during 1993-97 and 2009-2015; and his another uncle, Ch Wajahat Hussain remained Member of Punjab Assembly during 1988-90, 1990-93 and 1997-99; as Member of National Assembly during 2002-07, 2008-13; and functioned as Federal Minister for Human Resource Development.
