Personal Career & Interests

Mrs Shaheena Asad wife of Sardar Asad Rehman was born on November 15, 1967 in Lahore. She obtained the degree of M.A. (Urdu) in 1989 from University of the Punjab, Lahore and that of M.A (Journalism) in 1993 from Baha-ud-Din Zakariya University, Multan. She served as Councillor, Union Council No. 119 Lahore for six months and as Member, District Government, Lahore for one year. She also functioned as Chairperson Standing Committee on Information & Technology in City District Government Lahore for eight months; as Member Steering Committee in Ministry of Social Welfare, Women Development, Literacy and Baitul- Mal, Government of the Punjab; as Chief Coordinator (ladies’ wing) District Lahore and as General Secretary, lady Councillors network Punjab. She participated in a seminar on the role of women in politics and poverty reduction, organized by UNDP held in Islamabad. She participated in Lady Councillors’ Training Workshop, organized by UNICEF at NIPA, Lahore and also participated in women political participation program (W&P) held at Staff Training College, Lahore. She attended a seminar on “Local Government System and Public Responsibilities”, organized by South Asian Partnership (SAP) Lahore and “Women Entrepreneurs in Pakistan—A study to understand and improve their bargaining power”, organized by ILO at Avari, Lahore. She also attended the National Security Workshop organized by National Defence College, Islamabad. She visited USA with a Parliamentary Delegation during 2004. She is associated with an NGO named AZZM Welfare Foundation as General Secretary. She has been elected as Member Provincial Assembly of the Punjab in General Elections 2002 against one of the seats reserved for women; and is serving as Chairperson, Standing Committee on Tourism since September 10, 2003.
