SENATE

The Senate of Pakistan is a permanent legislative body and symbolises a process of continuity in the national affairs. The Senate consists of 87 Members. The Constitution lays out the methodology for the election of the Senate. About one half of the members are elected for six year term after every three years. The qualifications required for a member to be elected to the Senate are that he should be not less than thirty years of age and should be registered as a voter in an area of the province from where he is seeking election. The Chairman and the Deputy Chairman hold office for a period of three years. They are elected by the senators through secret ballot by a majority vote, when the vacancy occurs.
