The next
Provincial Assembly of West Pakistan was constituted for a period of five years
in accordance with Articles 70 to 72 of the Constitution of 19621. The Leader of the
House was empowered only to run the internal affairs of the Assembly under the
guidance of the Governor. Chaudhri Muhammad Anwar Bhinder was re-elected as
Speaker on June 12, 1965 unopposed2.
The
Assembly met for 248 sittings over 8 sessions with the last session held from
January 1, 1969 to February 20, 1969. This Assembly remained on ground for 3
years 9 months and 17 days when it was dissolved on March 25, 1969 as a result
of the proclamation of Martial Law by General Muhammad Yahya
Khan, abrogating 1962 Constitution3.
