GOVERNMENT BUSINESS

 

1.  Oath making by the Members Elect who have not yet made the oath, if any.

 

2.  Ascertainment of Member as Chief Minister under Article 130(2A) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, who commands the confidence of majority of Members of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab.

SUMMARY OF THE PROCEEDINGS

Rana Muhammad Iqbal, Speaker, assumed the chair and proceedings commenced with the recitation from the Holy Quran.

 

GOVERNMENT BUSINESS

The Governor of the Punjab summoned a special session for the purpose of Article 130(2A) of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan for the ascertainment of the Chief Minister. It was the second session of the new Assembly

 

Mr. Speaker announced that a single proposal sheet in favour of Sardar Dost Muhammad Khan Khosa for ascertainment as Chief Minister had been received by 9:00 P.M on 11 April 2008, which was found in order after scrutiny. The name was proposed by the following members:-

1.               Mr. Ali Haidar Noor Khan Niaz, (PP-45)

2.               Mrs. Ghazala Saad Rafique, (W-300)

3.               Mr. Riaz Ahmed Raja, (PP-65)

4.               Mr. Mohsin Latif, (PP-147)

5.               Mr. Makhdoom Ahmad Mehmood Syed, (PP-292)

The proposal was seconded by the following:-

1.               Sardar Meer Badshah Khan/Qaisrani,  (PP-240)

2.               Mrs. Saima Aziz (Mohy-ud-Din), (W-311)

3.               Mr. Abdul Ghafoor , (PP-161)

4.               Mr. Allah Rakha, (PP-146)

5.               Mr. Ahmad Ali Aulakh, (PP-262)

 

The Secretary Assembly announced the procedure for ascertainment of the Chief Minister by counting provided in the Rules of Procedure of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab 1997.

 

Since the Opposition members had boycotted the electoral process, Mr. Speaker ordered the ringing of quorum bells for five minutes. After that all the entries to the chamber and the lobbies were locked.

 

 

After counting, Mr. Speaker declared that Sardar Dost Muhammad Khan Khosa has the confidence of majority of Members of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab and elected unopposed leader of the House and Chief Minister of the Punjab, who bagged 263 votes out of 353. Later Sardar Dost Muhammad Khan Khosa was invited to occupy the chair of the leader of the House.

 

After assuming the chair of Leader of the House/Chief Minister, he thanked all the Members of the House for their confidence and assured them his full cooperation during his tenure as such.

 

Raja Riaz Ahmed, PPP Parliamentary Leader congratulated him on his success.

 

               The House was then adjourned sine die.
