On the first day allotted for general discussion on the annual budget, Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan, Speaker, assumed the Chair and proceedings commenced with the recitation from the Holy Qur’an and its Urdu translation followed by Naat-e-Rasool-e-Maqbool (P.B.U.H.) by Qari Syed Sadaqat Ali.

Point of Order

Since due to shortage of residential accommodation, the members were facing difficulty in attending the Assembly session, therefore, on a point of order, Senior Minister Raja Riaz Ahmed told the House that the Government had allowed those MPAs, who had not been provided with the official accommodation during the session, to stay in a three-star hotel. Syed Nazim Hussain Shah, MPA raised the point that the members had the privilege of staying in a five star hotel. Mr Speaker remarked that the members should understand the spirit behind the government’s decision which was to promote simplicity and to save public money for the development of the masses of the province of Punjab.

Privilege Motion

Mr Saeed Akbar Khan Niwani, MPA moved a privilege motion regarding the irresponsible attitude of RPO Faisalabad. The Law Minister did not oppose it and the same was referred to the Committee.

Government Business

General Discussion on Annual Budget for the Year 2008-09

The Annual Budget for the year 2008-09 was presented in the Assembly on June 16, 2008. After a break of two days, general discussion on the Annual Budget was started and was initiated by Makhdoom Syed Ahmad Mehmood followed by Ch Nadeem Khadim, Mrs Tayyaba Zameer, Ch Tahir Mehmood Hundali, Advocate, Sheikh Ala-ud-Din, Mr Khalil Tahir Sindhu, Mr Kamran Michael, Mrs Robina Shaheen Wattoo, Rai Muhammad Aslam Khan, Khawaja Muhammad Islam and Ch Tariq Gujjar.

The House was adjourned due to lack of quorum to meet on June 20, 2008 at 10:00 a.m.
