Privilege Motion

A Privilege Motion by Mr Irshad Ahmad Khan MPA regarding contemptuous behaviour of S.E., Director Circle and other Union Officials of WAPDA, Muzaffargarh with the mover, was referred to the Special Committee.

Adjournment Motion

An adjournment motion of Chaudhry Zahir-ud-Din was disposed of as the mover was not present.

Minister for Finance, Mr Tanvir Ashraf Kaira presented the report on the adjournment motion which had been moved by Sheikh Ala-ud-Din MPA on 25 June, 2008. The Minister for Finance stated that there were three reasons for the shortage of diesel in the province:-

Firstly the hoarders were storing diesel in speculation of further rise in the oil prices, secondly the oil companies were reducing their supply due to non-payment of subsidy by the government, and thirdly, diesel was being smuggled to Afghanistan to be sold at higher prices.

He informed the House that the Punjab government had announced to form a committee to look into these issues. He said he had also held a talk with the Federal Finance Minister, Minister for Petroleum and Chief Minister of the Punjab in this regard. He appreciated the Chief Minister for constituting inspection teams for ensuring regular supply of the diesel.

He further said that the federal government had already paid a subsidy of Rs 38 billion during the last few months, however, adding that another Rs 17 billion would be paid within the next few days which would help smooth the supply of oil to the consumers.
