In exercise of the powers conferred under clause (1) of Article 112 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Makhdum Syed Ahmad Mahmud, Governor of the Punjab, on the advice of the Chief Minister Punjab, dissolved the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab on 20 March 2013.

He remained Senior Minister, Government of the Punjab holding the portfolio of Minister for Irrigation & Power.
