In exercise of the powers conferred under clause (1) of Article 112 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Makhdum Syed Ahmad Mahmud, Governor of the Punjab, on the advice of the Chief Minister Punjab, dissolved the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab on 20 March 2013.

Ch Khalid Pervez Virk son of Ch Ghoas Muhammad Virk was born on May 1, 1963 at Matta Virkan, Gujranwala. He graduated in 1984 from University of the Punjab, Lahore. He served as Member, District Council Gujranwala during 1986-90 and as Vice Chairman, District Council Gujranwala during 1990-92. He was a Member of Provincial Assembly of the Punjab duirng 1993-96 and also functioned as Special Assistant to Chief Minister Punjab and has returned to the Punjab Assembly for the second term in general elections 2008. His brother, Ch Khalid Javed Virk remained a Member of Punjab Assembly during 1985-88, 1988-90 and 1990-93.
