Summary of the Proceedings

Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan, outgoing Speaker, assumed the Chair and proceedings commenced with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an and its Urdu translation followed by Naat-e-Rasool-e-Maqbool (PBUH).
Oath:-
The member-elect, Malik Ali Abbas Khokhar (PP-192) made an oath as member of the Punjab Assembly and signed the Roll of Members. Mr. Speaker administered the oath.
Election of Speaker, Deputy Speaker and their oath taking:-
Since Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan was the candidate for the election of Speaker, therefore, he invited Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan from the Panel of Chairmen to Chair the House under Rule 9(3) of Rules of Procedure of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab, 1997. The other member nominated for the candidature was Mr Rashid Hafeez (PP-11).
The Senior Secretary Assembly informed the members about the procedure for the election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker as laid down in Rules 9 and 10 of the Rules of Procedure of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab 1997. The balloting for the election of Speaker was held.
Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan (PP-184) was re-elected as Speaker Provincial Assembly of the Punjab securing 297 votes against his competitor who secured 35 votes.
After taking an oath from Mr Chairman Rana Muhammad Iqbal assumed the Chair of Speaker and conducted the election of Deputy Speaker.
The House elected Sardar Sher Ali Gorchani (PP-248) as Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly who secured 293 votes against his contender Mr Waqas Hassan Mokal (PP-180) who secured 37 votes.
Thereafter, Mr Speaker administered the oath to Sardar Sher Ali Gorchani as Deputy Speaker.
Election of Chief Minister
The Senior Secretary Assembly thereafter informed the House about the Election pattern of Chief Minister as envisaged in Rules 17 to 19 of the Rules of Procedure of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab to be held on 6 June 2013.
The House was then adjourned till 11:00 am on Thursday 6th June, 2013.
