Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan, Speaker, assumed the Chair and proceedings commenced with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an and its Urdu translation followed by Naat-e-Rasool-e-Maqbool (PBUH).

General Discussion on Annual Budget for the year 2016-17

Mian Mehmood ur Rashid, Leader of the Opposition, initiated general discussion on Annual Budget 2016-17 and criticizing the Government, expressed dissatisfaction with the budgetary outlay and condemned for unnecessary expenditure and underutilization of budgeted funds.He said that the budget did not reflect aspirations of the masses which had been made on the recommendations of bureaucrats. Talking on the Orange Line Metro Train, he said the government would suffer Rs.11.79 billion burden that would be incurred through subsidy on the Metro. He said that the government failed to spend the development budget last year. He stated that in the budget 2016-17 the total outlay for CM office and CM House has been doubled. He criticized the government on levying additional taxes of Rs185 billion which have to affect the life of everyone. He said that the government should complete the Bab-i-Pakistan project at the earliest, as only 50 per cent of the structure had been completed so far at a cost of Rs.860 million.
