 SYNOPSIS OF SIXTEENTH PROVINCIAL ASSEMBLY OF THE PUNJAB

 (2013 – 2018)

After dissolution of the previous Assembly on March 20, 2013 in terms of Article 112 (1) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, this Assembly was constituted as a result of general elections held on 11 May 2013. Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif was elected as the Chief Minister on June 06, 2013.

The 16^th Punjab Assembly constituted as a result of general elections had composition of 371 members comprising 297 general seats, 66 seats reserve for women and 8 seats reserved for Non-Muslims. The 1^st sitting of the Assembly was presided over by Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan, the Speaker of the previous Assembly. He was re-elected as Speaker of this Assembly.

This Assembly completed its five years tenure and the Governor dissolved it on May 31, 2018. Its first sitting was held on 1 June 2013 and its last sitting was held on May 17, 2018. It met for 352 actual sittings with the total of 509 days; over 36 sessions. This Assembly passed 191 Acts.

PML (N) with landslide victory had 310 seats out of 371, and eight political parties represented 16^th Assembly.
