Mr. Muhammad Mohsin Khan Leghari son of Col (R) Rafique Ahmed Khan Leghari was born on June 9, 1963 at Dera Ghazi Khan. After initial schooling at Aitchison College Lahore, attended the University of Oklahoma. Later, he obtained Certification in Financial Markets from the Securities Institute of Australia and he also has a Post graduate Diploma in Applied Economics from the University of the Punjab. He has worked with the world's leading multinational financial information and information technology companies before being elected for the first time to the Provincial Assembly from PP 245 (Dera Ghazi Khan V) in 2003 and then again in 2007. During his tenure in the provincial parliament, he was the chairman of the standing committee on Local Government and Rural Development (2003-2007) and member of the Public Accounts Committee (2008-2012). After two terms (2002-2007, 2008-2012) in the provincial parliament he was elected as the first ever independent senator from Punjab in 2012 Senate Elections and retained his Independent status throughout the term. In the senate he served on the following committees, Finance, Functional Committee on Human Rights, Food and National Security, Planning and Development, Delegated Legislation, Water and Power, Defence, and the Communications. He is an alumni of National Defence University, Islamabad and the International Academy for Leadership (IAF) at Theodor Heuss Academy in Gummersbach, Germany.
He has been elected to the Provincial assembly of Punjab for the third time in 2018 general elections from PP 293 (Rajanpur I) and been given the responsibilities of the Ministry of Irrigation. He belongs to a renowned political family of southern Punjab, which has been represented in the parliaments since before partition. He is widely travelled and has represented Pakistan at the annual United Nations hearings of the Inter Parliamentary Union, 7th World Water Forum in Korea and COP 22, United Nations Climate Change Conference Marrakech, Morocco. He is an avid reader with keen interests in climate change, water scarcity, current affairs and policy making. He is also weekend golfer.
